MAUI FENCING& Land Management
Tall wire deer fence on steel posts running down a green ʻUlupalakua Ranch hillside toward the ocean, Upcountry Maui

Fence installation across MauiAny fence. Built to last.

Privacy, vinyl, chain link, metal, cattle, deer, and welded wire fencing for homes, ranches, businesses, and communities across Maui. Built straight and strong by an owner with more than 7 years on the fence line.

Easiest way to start: call Keaghan with the town and a rough length of the line.

Fencing on Maui

Whatever you're fencing in, we can build it.

Every fence has a job. Keep the dogs in and the deer out. Hold cattle on pasture. Give the backyard some privacy, or close off a storage yard. We build all of it, from a short backyard run to long pasture lines across Upcountry acreage, and we take the same care with both.

And because the same crew clears land and hauls, we can clear and level the line, pull out the old fence, and build the new one without bringing in another company.

On Maui

Solid panels catch the trade winds like a sail, so posts and framing have to be built for the wind your property actually gets. Wood also has to stand up to rot and termites, which is why some owners go with vinyl.

What we'll talk through

  • Wood or vinyl
  • Height
  • Board style & spacing
  • Finish & color

Already have a fence?

Repairs and replacements, too.

Not every fence needs to come down. We'll tell you straight whether yours is worth fixing, and if it's time for a new one, the old fence comes out, posts and all, and gets hauled away.

Worth fixing

  • Leaning or loose posts
  • Broken boards, pickets, or panels
  • Sagging, stretched, or snapped wire
  • Storm and fallen-tree damage

Time for a new one

  • Posts rotted or eaten through at the base
  • Metal rusted through near the coast
  • A fence that no longer does its job

Built for Maui

Salt air, red dirt, and trade winds.

Maui is hard on fences. These are the conditions we plan for on every line, and how they shape what gets built.

How it works

How a fence goes up.

From the first call to the last post, here's what working with us looks like. No runaround, and no hand-offs to another company.

  1. First

    Walk the line

Call with your town and a rough length. Keaghan comes out to walk the line with you: where it runs, what it needs to keep in or out, and what the ground is like.

    Who: Keaghan, in person

  2. Next

    Plan & price

You'll get a plan and a straight price before anything starts: the fence type, height, materials, and a schedule. If materials have to come in from off-island, you'll know up front.

    You get: a price, a plan & a schedule

  3. Then

    Clear the line

Brush, trees, and any old fence come out, and rough spots are leveled, so the new fence goes in on a clean, straight line.

    With: Kubota SVL97-3 & Komatsu PC88MR

  4. Crew member kneeling at a long, straight line of tall woven-wire fence on freshly cleared red dirt

    After that

    Set the posts

A fence is only as straight as its posts. The line is measured and strung, and every post goes in plumb and on line, with the corners and ends braced.

Where most of the time goes

  5. Finished black metal fence on a block wall above a green lawn, looking out over rooftops to the ocean

    Last

    Build & clean up

Boards, panels, wire, or mesh go up tight and true. Old fencing and debris are hauled off in our dump trailer, and we walk the finished line with you.

Fencing FAQ

Fence questions, answered.

What Maui homeowners, ranchers, and property managers ask most before a new fence goes in.

Don't see your question? Call Keaghan to talk it through.

Asked most often

It depends on the length of the line, the type and height of fence, and the ground: slope, rock, and soft soil all change how the posts go in. Brush or an old fence that has to come out first, and how easy the line is to reach, play a part too. Material costs vary a lot between fence types, and some materials ship in from off-island. You'll get a straight price before any work starts, and a quick call with a rough length is the quickest way to get one.

What types of fencing do you install?

Privacy fencing in wood or vinyl, plus vinyl, chain link, metal, cattle, deer, and welded wire fencing, for homes, ranches and farms, businesses, and HOAs anywhere on Maui. We also repair fences and take out old ones.

How tall does a fence need to be to keep axis deer out?

About 8 feet. Axis deer clear the older 4-foot fences that were built for pigs and goats, and the State has been raising Maui's forest fences to 8 feet for the same reason. Height isn't everything, though: the bottom edge has to stay tight to the ground, and the corners can't leave a gap.

What's the best fence material near the ocean?

Salt air is hard on bare steel and cheap hardware. Close to the coast, vinyl is a popular choice because it won't rust or rot, and coated or galvanized metal and chain link hold up far better than bare steel. Wood can work too, but it needs more upkeep. We'll talk through what fits your property and your budget.

Do you repair fences, or only build new ones?

Both. We fix leaning posts, broken boards and panels, and sagging or snapped wire, and we repair fence lines after storms. If a fence is past saving, we'll tell you, then take the old one out and build the new one.

Can you take out my old fence?

Yes. We pull the old fence out, posts and all, and haul it away in our dump trailer, with the wire and metal going to recycling. Then we build the new one, so there's no second company to coordinate.

Do I need a permit to build a fence on Maui?

Many fences don't, but height limits, setbacks from the property line, and the Special Management Area along the coast can apply, depending on where the fence goes. The County of Maui's Development Services Administration can confirm what your project needs, and we'll point out anything that might need a permit when we walk the line.

How long does a fence installation take?

It depends on the length, the ground, the type of fence, and whether materials need to be ordered in. Setting the posts takes the most time; once they're in, the rest of the fence goes up quickly. You'll get a schedule along with your price, before any work starts.

Can you clear the fence line before you build?

Yes, and it's one of the best reasons to hire one crew. We clear brush and trees, level rough ground, and haul off the debris with our own equipment, then build the fence on a clean, straight line.

Where exactly will the fence go?

Where you want it, once we've walked the line together. If you're not sure where your property line is, have the corner pins located by a land surveyor first. It's the best way to avoid trouble with the neighbors later.
